Monn claims district cross country medal; state berth

Daulton Monn iced his Blue Devil cross country career with a district performance what will put him at the premier event in Pennsylvania scholastic district running.

Monn covered the District 3 Cross Country Championships course for an 11th place finish, earning a medal and better yet, a berth in the PIAA State Championship event set for Saturday, Nov. 3 on the same Hershey course where districts was held.

Running in the Class AA race, Monn finished in 17:39. Vinny Todaro of Big Spring won the ran in 16:35.

Lead runners on the G-A girls’ cross country team, Caroline Schemel and Shelby Stouffer were affected by injury and the conditions to mar their efforts in the district race. Schemel had skipped the Mid-Penn Conference run to rest a hip injury and was doing well in the district run before the pain flared and she finished 28th in 21:33:32. Dehydration plagued Stouffer in her 64th place finish.

Caitlyn Hetrick helped to fuel a ninth-place team finish for the G-A girls with a 32nd place finish. Madison Hurley was 65th, Morgan Stahley was 90th and Melissa Holmes was 100th.

In the boys’ race for G-A, Zach Husband was 107th, Ben Hockman was 114th, Andrew Martin was 187th, Marc Pittman was 202nd and Luke Norris was 205th.
