G-A gets two wins at Boiling Springs tournament

BOILING SPRINGS — The Greencastle-Antrim varsity field hockey team won two games at Saturday's Boiling Springs tournament.

The Blue Devils defeated Chambersburg 3-1 and beat Carlisle 1-0.

Against the Trojans, Bella Facchina scored two goals in the first half. Blaire Trueax scored a goal, and Micaela Dougherty and Sydney Orndorff each had an assist.

Facchina scored a goal with 3:35 remaining in the game to lift Greencastle-Antrim past Carlisle 1-0. Facchina's goal was unassisted.

The Blue Devils outshot the Thundering Herd 12-4 and had an 8-2 advantage in penalty corners.

"Playing our second game of the day in the hot sun caused us to start out slowly, but as the game went on, we played harder and worked together," said G-A coach Rebecca Rice. "Carlisle was a stronger opponent against us the entire game and our mental toughness at the end of the game won us out."

On Thursday, G-A fell to West Perry 2-0.

Hershey sweeps past Blue Devils

HERSHEY — Hershey swept Greencastle-Antrim in three close sets last Thursday in Mid-Penn Keystone Division action.

The Trojans won 26-24 in the first game to set the tone for the rest of the match. Hershey won by its largest margin in the second set, 25-19, putting the Blue Devils' backs to the wall. In another hard-fought set, G-A lost 25-22 in the third game.

Madison Kirkwood led at the net with seven kills for Greencastle. Audrey Garling had six kills, and Lauren Pool and Gia Davis each had five kills.

Baylee Schaeffer spearheaded the defensive effort with 27 digs. McKenzie Shatzer added 12 digs. Shatzer also had 18 set assists.

James Buchanan soars past Greencastle-Antrim 7-0

GREENCASTLE — James Buchanan dominated Greenastle-Antrim in a Mid-Penn Colonial Division match on Thursday.

The Rockets scored three goals in the first half and four in the second half. Three of the goals came off the foot of Ashley Dukehart. Carley Dinsmore scored two goals, and Addy Crouse and Kadeen Martin scored a goal each.

James Buchanan outshot Greencastle 25-12.
