Herm Edwards and the ASU football team have had better years recruiting.

It's safe to say that this hasn't been a banner year in recruiting for the Arizona State football team.

It's been quite the opposite.

The Sun Devils' 2022 recruiting class is currently ranked No. 12 in the Pac-12 conference by 247 Sports.

Yes, last.

How bad is it nationally?

Herm Edwards' class is currently ranked No. 105 in the country by the same site, a spot behind UConn.

Yes, UConn.

Kansas, at No. 119, is the only school from a Power 5 conference ranked below the Sun Devils.

The Sun Devils' previous low since 2000 in 247 Sports' recruiting rankings nationally was No. 65 in 2011.

ASU was No. 24 in the nation under Herm Edwards in 2020 and No. 28 in 2019 (the team was No. 52 in 2021, No. 8 in the Pac-12).

The program has been in the midst of an NCAA recruiting investigation that has led to the resignation or dismissal of five assistants, the latest on Wednesday with the departure of recruiting coordinator and defensive coordinator Antonio Pierce.

It's not all bad, however.

ASU's recruiting woes have led to the team hitting the transfer portal hard and the Sun Devils' transfers are ranked No. 3 in the Pac-12, only behind USC and UCLA and one spot ahead of Arizona.

The team also comes in No. 18 nationally on the transfer list.

247 Sports also has an overall Pac-12 recruiting ranking that includes transfers and high school and junior college recruits and the Sun Devils are No. 10 in the Pac-12 on that list, ahead of Washington and Oregon State.

They come in at No. 67 on the national list that includes transfers and recruits.

People reacted to the state of ASU football recruiting on social media and needless to say, they were not impressed.
