Two Greencastle teams capture district titles

Two teams from the Greencastle-Antrim Baseball Softball Association have brought home District 14 Little League Inc. championships.

The Senior League tournament team collected the 15-16 title in double elimination play with wins over Gettysburg (5-1), Newville (5-3) and then Gettysburg (14-4) in the championship game.

The Minors (10-11) division team went 3-0 in pool play and continued well with a 10-0 blanking of Shippensburg and a 5-1 win over Hanover for the crown.

District 14 champions advance to the Section 7 tournament where they will face the champions from districts 8 (Berks County), 23 (Lancaster County) and 28 (Chester County). Section 7 champions advance to the PA State Championships tournament. Majors (11-12) and older advance to the Mid-Atlantic/Eastern Region tournament and a chance to advance to the World Series.

Greencastle had five teams entered in the Little League Inc. baseball tournaments.

The Junior League team from Greencastle had a battle of its own in Gettysburg, the site of the tournament for the 13-14 age group that featured teams from Greencastle, Northeastern, Spring Grove, Gettysburg, York City and Hanover.

Greencastle advanced to double elimination play with a 3-2 record. In its opener in that bracket the team dropped a 13-1 decision to Gettysburg, but bounced back to dispatch Northeastern 6-2. Spring Grove ended the tourney for Greencastle with a 13-6 final.

Greencastle’s Major (11-12) and the 9-10 team had previously been eliminated from competition.

The Clarence Boyd Tournament is also underway.

In 11-12 Majors Division play, Greencastle fell 22-1 to Dillsburg in the opener and had a close loss to Hanover, 16-14. In 9-10 play Greencastle is 1-1 with a 14-4 win over Shippensburg and a 15-11 loss to Shippensburg.
