Pitcher and catcher, Elizabeth Ward and Casey German, celebrate.

The Greencastle-Antrim softball team is the District 3-AAA Champion after a 7-5 win over Twin Valley Thursday.

The Blue Devils will begin state tournament play next week.

G-A was all about capitalizing Wednesday and as it earned the Blue Devils a shot at the District 3-AAA championship. In addition the 3-1 semifinal victory over Donegal gave the Devils an automatic berth into the PIAA Tournament.

In Wednesday’s semifinal the Devils struck first with a single run in the second on a Kelsey Brewbaker single that Donegal answered in the fourth. But while G-A opened the door a bit with a couple of errors, the Indians never came through the opening. Meanwhile the Devils used a couple of walks issued to them in the top of the fifth inning and Casey German stroked a single to plate the runners for the lead and insurance that G-A never had to use.

G-A’s other basehits came from Erin Bontrager and Michaela Ensminger, both doubles, and Mackenzie Gayman.

Elizabeth Ward scattered five Indian hits and didn’t allow an earned run while fanning five in the pitching win. She issued just one free pass.
