It was piling on in happiness for the Devils.

The Greencastle-Antrim baseball team is the District 3-AAA Champion following a 12-8 victory over Littlestown Thursday.

The Devil will begin state tournament play next week.

A little bit of everything happened for the Greencastle-Antrim baseball team in Wednesday’s District 3-AAA semifinal game against West York. Mostly it was a good thing as the Blue Devil continued to stun and bypassed the Lions 5-3 to earn a chance at the district title and an automatic berth in the state tournament.

G-A, which came into the tournament as the 13th seed, has made the number lucky, knocking off the fourth, fifth and now eighth seeds en route to the final. At 4 p.m. today in the Sovereign Bank Park stadium in York the Devils (14-7) will take on third-seeded Littlestown (19-3) for the district championship.

A series of miscues from both teams, including five errors, three walks and two hit batters, led to a 3-3 tie going into the third inning. Both teams buckled down after that, but it was the Devils who ended up scoring the winning run in the third on Ashtin Byers’ sacrifice fly. A West York error led to some G-A insurance in the fifth inning.

Hovey ended up going 3-for-4. In addition to Byers, Danny Stepler, Jake Crist and Holden Baker each drove in runs. Baker went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Ryan Ricci inked the mound win, going all but the final out, scattering four hits and striking out four in the process. Myles Gayman threw three pitches for the final out, a K, and the save.
