Greencastle-Antrim athletes compete on district, state stage
The Greencastle-Antrim boys' soccer teams came up short Saturday night in its efforts to qualify for state competition, meanwhile senior Daulton Monn completed his high school cross country career on the state stage.
The Blue Devil booters took on Pequea Valley in a battle for third place in the District 3-AA bracket. The top three teams advance to the state tournament. G-A delivered three goals in the effort, however Pequea Valley placed five goals on the scoreboard.
G-A finishes its 2012 campaign at 15-7, making history as the first time the program has advanced to the district semifinals. The Devils were edged in the semi by defending champion Lancaster Mennonite. Tulpehocken defeated Lancaster Mennonite for the district title by a 1-0 score.
Also on Saturday, Monn ran in the PIAA Class AA Championships. The senior harrier completed the course in 17:56, good for 109th place. The finish was in the top half as 228 runners participated. Vinny Todaro of Big Spring won the race in 16 minutes flat.
