Blue Devil teams hit the postseason trail this week
It’s postseason time for many of the Greencastle-Antrim High School fall athletic teams.
Both the boys’ and girls’ varsity soccer teams won’t have far to go to start District 3 play as each will host a game this week. The District 3 Cross Country Championship run is Wednesday, Oct. 24 and the volleyball district bracket will get underway Saturday, Oct. 27.
The 15-3 G-A girls’ soccer team nailed down a second seed in the Class AA district tournament behind 17-3 Trinity. Each team heads up a bracket in the championships that open Tuesday, Oct. 23 with the first round. The Devils will host 15th-seeded Brandywine Heights (10-7-1) with a 7 p.m. game on Kaley Field. A win would pit G-A against West York or ELCO in the quarterfinals Saturday, Oct. 27.
The Blue Devil boys’ soccer team, at 13-5, was the eighth seed in the District 3-AA bracket. G-A will draw ninth-seeded Bishop McDevitt (12-6) in the first round with a game set for 7 p.m. today on Kaley Field. A win would put the Devils into a likely matchup with top-seeded and division foe Gettysburg (15-2).
Admission fees for District 3 games is $6 for adults and $4 for students (K-12). No passes will be accepted at these games. Noise makers and posters are not permitted at these events.
The cross country district event is held at the Parkview Cross Country Course in Hershey. The Blue Devil runners will be competing back in the fold of the Class AA with the expansion to three classifications. The girls’ AA race starts at 12:15 p.m. and the boys’ AA race is set for 3:15 p.m.
Postseason for volleyball gets underway Saturday, however the Blue Devil (16-2) may bypass that opening round by virtue of being the second seed in the Class AA bracket and await an opponent in the Tuesday, Oct. 30 quarterfinals.
The G-A field hockey team just missed a district berth, finishing 22nd in the competition for 20 playoff spots.
