Greencastle-Antrim softball to play for district title; qualifies for states

The Greencastle-Antrim Blue Devil softball team has punched its ticket to the state championships. There will be a chance for more before the state tournemnt begins next week. The Devils will go for the District 3-AAA title today.

G-A defeated Big Spring 7-0 in the district semifinal Wednesday to advance to the title game. The Devils will face Manheim Central at 4:30 p.m. at Lebanon Valley College for the championship.

In Wednesday's game the Devils blanked Big Spring behind a two-hiiter from Amanda Wink. G-A went up 1-0 in the first inning Tuesday before rain interupted play. The Devils left no room for the Bulldogs Wednesday, rounding up the seven runs on six hits and riding the arm of Wink. Cassey Cordell hit a solo homer in the secondinning. G-A got lots of insurance with a four-run fifth inning.

Manheim Central came into the tournament as the third seed and moved to the title game wtih an 8-1 win over Northeastern, a 2-1 win over Donegal and defeating Northern York 6-1. They came into the championship tilt with a 20-3 record.

G-A is the fifth seed and is not 18-5 on the season.

The Devils will begin state tournament play Monday, June 4 in the 16-team bracket.
