New fast-pitch league begins play in Greencastle-Antrim
Two teams from the newly-formed Greencastle-Antrim Ladies Softball (GALS) kicked off the fast-pitch league’s season last week. The local teams will play as part of the Chambersburg Suburban League.
GALS Orange 14,
GALS Green 2
GALS Orange defeated GALS Green 14-2 in the U14 division. Green took an early lead, scoring two in the bottom of the first on a single by Shayla Walck. Orange answered with eight runs in the top of the third, highlighted by doubles from Jenay Faulkner and Madison Ziadeh. Mackenzie Oberholzer and Dara Murray had multiple hits for Orange. Paige Repp inked the pitching win.
GALS Gold 10,
Waynesboro Eagles 10
GALS Gold team took to the road to play the Waynesboro Eagles on the Eagles’ home field in Five Forks Thursday evening in a Chambersburg Suburban League 12U matchup. The 10-10 final demonstrated a back and forth game in which Waynesboro took the lead in first. Gold answered with a four-run third the was highlighted by a bases-loaded single from the bat of Colleen Martin.
Waynesboro again gained the advantage as the GALS offense wasted a two-out double from Olivia Martin. But it was the pitching of Paige Shatzer and the Gold defense that included an unassisted double play from Abby Reitz that held off the Eagles late and allowed the offense to work its way back to the tie ballgame. Gold shut down Waynesboro in the final two frames and rounded up four runs. Kathleen Sibbio hit a triple and a double in the rally, Abby Reitz had a two-bagger and Sarah Martin tagged an RBI-single.

Pen Mar Angels 7
Annaston Cree tripled with the bases loaded to highlight the win by GALS Green.
