Greencastle-Antrim brought lots of excitement to the home closer of its 2012 regular season in girls’ soccer last week.

With non-divisional West Perry in town for the final regular season home game for the Blue Devil seniors, G-A captured the 2-1 battle in double overtime for a dramatic ending. A double-header from Heather Sanders to Emiley Maiorana that began from the foot of Abbey Denkovich on a corner kick ended with Maiorana delivering the ball into the net. The 1-0 lead in the first half held until shortly after the half. Spirited play continued to the regulation buzzer, forcing the overtime that also lasted until Alicia Crider found the perfect opportunity a few minutes into the second OT. Crider put her head on the ball with solid timing and delivered it to the net for the win.

Senior goalkeeper Alex Baughman grew stronger as the game progressed with nine total saves and five of those in the first overtime period.

Colonial Division-leading Gettysburg proved tough on their home field, dealing the Devils a 4-1 setback Thursday. G-A forged a tie at the half on a Crider goal that came on an assist from Sharon Juarez. The Warriors score three unanswered goals in the second half.

While Gettysburg is in G-A’s division, the Warriors are a Class AAA team for the postseason, while the Blue Devils are Class AA. With one divisional game to go, G-A is 6-4-1 in the Colonial and 10-5-1 overall. The Devils finished the week 14th in the power ratings which will determine seeds into the 20-team district championships that begin May 14.

In junior varsity action last week, G-A dropped games to West Perry (3-1) and to Gettysburg (2-1).
