Devils end run in soccer districts
Greencastle-Antrim’s reward for opening its District 3-AA tournament with a home win was a trip to Gettysburg to take on the top-seeded Warriors. The Blue Devils had already dropped a pair of games to the Mid-Penn Conference divisional foe. None of that seemed to matter.
Even though the Devils didn’t win and ended their season, the 1-0 final was certainly more than Gettysburg bargained for. G-A had played the Warriors tougher each time and the district game was no different. The Blue Devils had been on a surge and gave Gettysburg all it could handle.
While both teams were able to make some threats offensively, it was the defenses that stood out in this game. After Gettysburg managed to insert one of its shots late in the first half for a 1-0 halftime lead, all the Warriors had to do in the second was focus on defense.
Gettysburg led in shots, 8-4, and in corner kicks, 8-2. Josh Spoonhour made seven saves for the Devils.
G-A ends the season with a 9-8-1 record.
