Greencastle-Antrim did all it could in the final push of the regular season to state its case in the Mid-Penn Conference Colonial Division and for its berth into the District 3-AA Championships with a 3-2 win over Shippensburg.

Despite the victory the Blue Devils (12-4) weren’t able to defend the divisional crown. That went to Gettysburg, who had just one loss in the division. G-A had split with the Warriors and the Devils had the upset from Big Spring. The win also gave the Devils an extra spin to their bid for a district playoff spot. Of the 20 teams who qualified, G-A ended up in the middle with the 10th seed. The bracket has the Devils facing seventh-seeded Biglerville (14-2) Tuesday, Oct. 25 at a time and place to be determined.

Tache Smothers sealed the deal against Shippensburg by connecting with two goals, including the game winner with under five minutes left in the first half. Sarah Gipe provided the assist. Jenna Lehman assisted on Smothers’ opening goal. Gipe scored unassisted to put the Devils up 2-0. Shippensburg fought back to tie it before Smothers delivered.

Emiley Maiorana record 15 saves in the goal for the Devils, who actually trailed 17-12 in shots on goal.

In the junior varsity contest, Hannah Mooers scored on a Moriah Woods assist in a 4-1 loss.
