A young Greencastle-Antrim girls’ cross country team (2-0 MPC-Colonial) continued to turn heads last week, defeating James Buchanan and Shippensburg in a Mid-Penn Colonial Division double dual meet. Caroline Schemel topped the board for the Blue Devils, battling Reynah Spence of Shippensburg. Schemel was second in the race with a time of 20:19. Her Blue Devil teammates were close behind. Nikki Garns covered the once-again revamped G-A course in 20:49 and Shelby Stouffer clocked a 21:03 to give G-A three finishers in the top five. Alana Ebbitt (22:18) and Caitlyn Hetrick (22:27) solidified the team effort with seventh and eighth place respectively. Lauren Powers was 18th in 25.54. The result was a 15-41 win over James Buchanan and a 24-31 verdict over Shippensburg.

The G-A boys’ team (0-2 MPC-Colonial), which has just the minimum team members with five, was one short Tuesday and didn’t field a team for a double forfeit. Daulton Monn was third in the overall race in a time of 18:28. Coby Salmon (20:16) and Ben Hockman (20:33) were ninth and 10th. Zach Husband was 14th in 20:57.

The Blue Devil harriers traveled to the 36-team 15th annual Bulldog Invitational on the weekend. Schemel finished sixth overall in 20:02. Spence won the race in 19:20. Stouffer grabbed ninth in the field of nearly 200 runners with a time of 20:38. Ebbitt was 30th in 21:48.

There were 215 runners in the boys’ varsity race. Monn checked in with 29th in a time of 17:50. Salmon was 108th in 19:40, Hockman 131st in 20:03 and Husband 151st in 20:33.
