G-A alumni Katie Lutz recently had a career night for the Kutztown University volleyball team.

Kutztown University junior middle hitter Katie Lutz, a Greencastle-Antrim alumnus, was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Player of the Week following her record-setting performance recently in a victory over West Chester. Lutz is the first KU women’s volleyball player to receive this weekly recognition.

In one outstanding match Lutz showed off her dominance on defense as she finished with a career-high total in blocks. In a thrilling 3-2 victory over West Chester, Lutz finished with a total 20 blocks with three solos and 17 assists to go with four kills and two assists accounting for 15.5 points during the match.

More impressive was the fact that she totaled 20 block attempts and finished the game with no blocking errors. Her average of four blocks a set was well above the national leader’s 1.69. Her effort gives her the single match high for blocks in a match by a PSAC player this year. She also set the new school record for blocks/match where the previous record was 14 by Angie Rideout in 1996, and her 17 block assists are the most in a Kutztown match since Krystalee George had 12 block assists in 2006 against St. Leo.

On the season she has tallied 116 blocks and has accounted for 139.5 points. Lutz has also helped the team surpass its win total from last year and extend Kutztown’s winning streak to four matches. The Golden Bears are 18-7 overall and 8-7 in the PSAC East.
