A memorable field hockey season for Greencastle-Antrim came to an end Tuesday as the Blue Devils were stopped in the opening round of the District 3-AA Championships 4-1 by Conrad Weiser.

Weiser was on its game from the start, scoring a pair of goals in the opening 10 minutes. Both came on corner plays. An unassisted goal late in the half had the Devils trailing 3-0 at the break.

“With an inconsistent first half, we struggled to create scoring opportunities,” said G-A head coach Jenniffer Everetts. “With some bad luck — hitting the post and the ball hitting our feet before scoring a goal — we were unable to score the goals we needed to make up for the deficit on the scoreboard and with our confidence.”

The Devils kept its opponent off the board for much of the second half and got on the board with 17:44 left on the clock. Dustina Miller scored on a corner play from a Tache Smothers assist. Conrad Weiser added a final goal at the 14:55 mark and the game ended at 4-1.

Everetts said, “I am proud of our season and the title we still hold (Mid-Penn Conference Colonial Division champions). Our girls deserve it.”

G-A held a slight lead in shots on goal, 13-12, while Weiser doubled up in penalty corners, 12-6. Emiley Maiorana made six saves for the Devils.

G-A ended its season at 15-4 overall and 10-0 for its divisional title.
