Despite a strong effort the Colonial Division champion Greencastle-Antrim field hockey team dropped a 3-1 verdict to Cedar Cliff in the Mid-Penn Conference Tournament Monday.
Tache Smothers scored for the Blue Devils (15-3) to take a 1-0 lead at the half. Cedar Cliff, the Commonwealth Division champion, scored all three goals in the second half.
The contest provides the Devils a good tuneup for the District 3-AA championships that begin Friday. G-A, which comes in as the seventh seed has a bye in the opening round and will meet 10th-seeded Conrad Weiser (14-3) for its opener at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26 at Hershey.
