Denver Cordell had a solid night for the Blue Devils with two touchdowns and more than 100 yards rushing.

The Greencastle-Antrim Blue Devils quickly took any anxiety about winning on Homecoming out of the equation Friday night on Kaley Field. Instead the Devils warmed up with two touchdowns in the opening quarter and added 41 points in the second period and handed West Perry a 55-7 defeat.

It was evident early that the Devils would need only showcase their running game in front of the Homecoming crowd and that they did to the tune of 365 yards on 40 carries. The victory improved the Devils to 4-0 on the season and was the first Mid-Penn Conference Colonial Division matchup.

All of G-A's scoring came in the first half of the game. Denver Cordell started the night off with a 25-yard touchdown run at 7:41 in the first quarter. Luke Bitner came on and made the first of his seven point after kicks of the game. Tyler Szaflarski was the next Blue Devil into the endzone with a one yard run at the 3:59 mark in the first.

Quarterback Devin Schaeffer hit Austin Scott for a 20 yard score in the first minute of the second quarter. A minute later, Scott intercepted the Mustang quarterback and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown. Aaron Bumbaugh was the next G-A player in the endzone with a 20-yard run with about seven minutes to play in the half.

The flood gates opened despite an extremely dry and dusty field. Denver Cordell ran for 46 yards and a TD with 4:24 left to play. Szaflarski rumbled into the endzone once more from 29 yards out with less than two minutes to go in the half. Schaeffer scored the Devils’ final points with a 31-yard interception return for a touchdown.

The Blue Devils had 365 yards rushing on the night. Szaflarski ran for 126 yards and two scores followed by Denver Cordell with 110 yards and two TDs. Schaeffer had 41 yards rushing followed by Bumbaugh with 40, Adam Moore with 24, Dylan Piper with 19 and Grant Murray had five yards rushing. Scott caught two passes for 41 yards, one of them for a touchdown while Hunter Szaflarski hauled in a 23 yard pass.

Cody Ezolt led G-A's defenders with five tackles. Seth Izer followed him with three. Scott and Schaeffer each returned interceptions for touchdowns.

The Devils take to the road this week for a date with divisional foe and neighboring rival Waynesboro.

The Greencastle Blue Devil JV squad traveled to Elliottsburg on a soggy Monday evening to face the West Perry Mustangs. Greencastle won the match up 19 - 12.

West Perry scored first but G-A’s Stephen Ernharth blocked the extra point attempt to keep the Mustangs at six. Adam Moore scored on a three-yard touchdown run at 6:25 in the second quarter. G-A's defense stiffened with Holden Baker and Gabe Fridgen turning in key pass breakups to keep the game tied at six at the break.

The third quarter was pretty uneventful as neither offense could move the ball well in the rain. With 23 seconds left in the third quarter, Grant Murray connected with Josh Young for a 64-yard touchdown pass. West Perry found the endzone once more to tie the score at 12 each. With 4:38 left to play in the game, Moore ran the ball in from 26 yards out to un-knot the score and put G-A on top for good. David Spinder kicked for the extra point.

Offensive leaders for the Devils were Moore with 81 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Murray ran for 22. Young caught a TD pass for 64 yards followed by Baker with 21 yards receiving and Hunter Szaflarski with 13.

Horenstein led the Blue Devil defense with nine tackles. Szaflarski had seven. Fridgen had six, while Potter and Ryan Hickey had five apiece.
