Blaze 94 wins ‘Blast at the Beach’

Mason Dixon Blaze 94 went undefeated to win its second fast-pitch softball tournament of the season this summer. The Blast at the Beach tournament consisted of 31 teams from throughout the east coast in the 16 and under division.

Blaze had victories over Delaware Riptide and MD thunderbirds, and tied Tri - County Thunder from New Jersey, earning the fourth seed going into single elimination bracket play Sunday.

On Sunday, the Blaze defeated the number 12 seed, Boyertown Storm.  In semifinal action the Blaze defeated the top seeded and undefeated Delaware Swoop, 5-4, advancing the local team to the championship game. In the championship game, Blaze defeated the Keystone Crush from Reading, 5-4, to claim its second championship in three tournaments.  

Blaire Lauthers and Jenna Rhodes combined for 33 strikeouts in the tourney.  The Blaze hitting attack was led by Mariah Yingling and Shea Foreman who both batted .538, and Mackenzie Gayman, who was .500 for the tournament, while the defense was led by the defensive play of Taylor Rogers at third base, Haley Thorn at second, Cassey Cordell and Megan Dougherty in the outfield, and Courtney Showe, who caught every game.

The first tournament Blaze won this season was the ASA Lancaster College Showcase.
