Boys bring home Section championship

Greencastle’s entry into the Little League Inc. Junior (13-14) Division won the Seciton 7 Tournament in Kennett Square last week, advancing the team to the PA State Tournament. Greencastle went 3-1 in the tourney, defeating District 23 Octorara, 8-3, and District 28 Oxford 5-3 to earn the top seed. The local team then fell to Oxford 10-3, creating a must-win Monday. Greencastle came through, beating Oxford, 14-4, winning the Section 7 championship. The state tournament is an eight-team bracket beginning July 29 in Robinson Township in Pittsburgh. Team members, are, from left: front — Cody Thompson, Kurt Hansen, Dom Guess, Wayne Kline; Justin Hovey, Ryan Ricci, Ashtin Byers, Jake Crist, Thomas Bowers; back — manager Troy Byers, coach Lew Crist, coach Karl Hansen. Not pictured are Matt Montedoro and Jesse Beeler. All games involving Greencastle in the Pennsylvania State Championship will be broadcast live on the internet.
