The Greencastle-Antrim entry in the Little League Inc. District 14 Junior (13-14) League Tournament won the title last week. This was the third Little League Inc. District 14 title for Greencastle teams at three different age levels this summer.

The team started slowly in pool play, falling to Pen Mar, 3-2 in the opening game, then beating Carlisle 33-2 and Newville 11 -1

The restuls put the local team as the third seed in the double elimination tournament, which it opened against York City. After outlasting York City, 11-8, Greencastle drew top seeded Pen Mar. This time Greencastle designed a 9-5 victory and waited for a championship opponent from the loser’s bracket. It was Pen Mar again.

Pen Mar jumped out to a first-inning, two-run lead early before Greencastle took over the lead in the top half of the second. In the bottom of the second Pen Mar struck to extend the lead to 7-3. After a scoreless third by both teams, Greencastle tied it up in the fourth, 7-7. A scoreless fifth opened the door for Greencastle to start the sixth by scoring three to extend the lead 10-7. Pen Mar threatened in the bottom of the sixth with a solo homerun to make it 10-8. Greencastle held Pen Mar to a 10 - 8 victory to claim the district title.

Greencastle will take the District 14 championship with its 5-1 record and move to the Section 7 Tournament in Kennett Square. The team will face a team from District 23 Thursday, July 22.
