Greencastle advances in LL tourney

Greencastle  Little League  11-12 District 14 Tournament  Team earned its first win of  District 14 double elimanation at York Monday evening with a 18-6 win over Dillsburg. Greencastle exploded for 11 runs in the fourth to put the contest out of reach.

For Greencastle, Bailey Parker had the hot bat with four hits, including a double. Quin Ambeault had three hits and with two each were Matthew Kline, Myles Gayman, Eugene Byers.

Derek Measell got the win on the mound collecting six strikeouts.

Greencastle moved into the double elimination bracket after play last week.

Greencastle wasted no time after shutting down Pen Mar in the first when Eugene Byers hit a lead off home run. Gayman tripled and was followed by a Kline two-run homer. The very next batter, Baily Parker, then hit a solo shot to put Greencastle up 4-0 after an inning. Greencastle put the game away in the third, scoring eight runs to make the score 13-1.

For Greencastle, Byers collected three hits, including two homers. Gayman and Kline had two hits each.

On the mound, Gayman got the win, allowing a run and a hit in the four-inning contest.

The local team suffered its second loss of pool play 10-9 versus Shippensburg. Down 8-0 entering the top of the fifth, Greencastle came storming back with four in the inning. Byers started things off with a solo home run and added Greencastle added three more in the inning with hits by Kline, Gayman and Quin Ambeault.

In the top of the sixth Greencastle added five to take a 9-8 lead with a walk, error and hits by Gayman, Kline, and the big blow, a two-out grand slam by Sean Walck. Shippensburg then came back with two in the sixth for the win.

Greencastle took its first loss of pool play with a 7-6 setback to Carlisle. In the back and forth contest which saw four lead changes Carlisle prevailed. Greencastle scored four in the top of the fifth to take a 6-3 lead and Carlisle answered with four in the bottom of the fifth to go up 7-6, and held of Greencastle in the sixth.

For Greencastle, Gayman, Kline and Measell each had two hits.
