Greencastle-Antrim alumnus Katrina Wright recently competed in the discus event at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals at Irwin Belk Track.

Competitors had to qualify for the meet and Wright was among the 27 athletes from 16 states to come to the event after throwing over 140 feet during her season with the Blue Devils. Wright was a conference and district champion in the discus and won the silver medal at states.

Wright delivered a 126-1 on her first throw at the event and scratched on the next two. The distance placed the recent G-A grad in 13th place. The finish was four better than the state champion Wright finished second to at the state competition.

Wright will be attending the University of North Carolina-Charlotte in the fall where she will be part of the track and field team.
