Post 373 splits last week’s games
Greencastle Post 373 had a win and a loss in Franklin County American Legion baseball action last week.
Post 373 clipped Fayetteville 8-3 before falling to Waynesboro, 13-6.
Greencastle brought plenty of fire power to its home turf Tuesday against Fayetteville. Devin Schaeffer broke the game open in the second inning with an RBI-triple. Andrew Zeger drove home Schaeffer with a single and Eric Schanzenbacher put an exclamation point on the outburst with a two-run homer.
Schanzenbacher had driven in a run earlier to make it three for the day. Cameron Chilcote, Jared Grove (double) and Dylan Schaeffer each added RBIs in the later innings. Devin Schaeffer, Schanzenbacher and Grove each had two hits in the 8-3 victory.
Dylan Schaeffer went the distance for Greencastle, scattering five hits with four Ks. He allowed just one earned run.
Waynesboro Post 15 came to town Thursday and a high-scoring first inning had the visitors up 5-3. Post 15 tacked on six in the top of the third and Greencastle was playing catch up from there in a 13-6 loss.
Post 15 had its early success with the long ball. Greencastle’s three-spot in the first came as Schanzenbacher drove in two with a double and Cody Ezolt hit a run-scoring single. Denton Ensminger and Dylan Schaeffer each drove in runs in the last of the seventh, but Post 373 couldn’t dent the Waynesboro advantage.
In other league news, Greencastle players Andrew Zeger (second base) and Cody Ezolt (first base) were selected in the first round of 2010 Legion All-Star tryouts.
