Sarah Signore pitches for Millersville University.

Millersville University junior pitcher Sarah Signore of Greencastle  played a integral role in leading the Marauder softball team to a 7-2 week and was rewarded with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference weekly honor last week. Signore, who set numerous pitching records at Greencastle-Antrim High School, was selected as PSAC East Pitcher of the Week.

Signore earned three of the Marauders’ seven wins in the circle for the week. The junior righty has shown precise control throughout the season. She earned the win in a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Bowie State last Tuesday by tossing 5.2 innings of five-hit ball. She allowed just one run and struck out nine.

Signore was in command yet again on Wednesday, shutting down the bats of 23rd-ranked Georgian Court in a 9-1 win. Her line on the afternoon read five innings pitched with one run allowed, no walks and four strikeouts.

She came oh-so-close to no-hitting Seton Hill on Friday. Signore threw a complete game shutout and had her no-hitter broken up in the top of the sixth inning on back-to-back singles. They were the only hits allowed in the game, as Signore did not give up an extra base hit in the contest. She struck out six against just one walk in the game against the Griffins and moved to 5-0 on the year.

Signore did suffer her first loss of the season in a pitcher’s duel against West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday night. She only gave up four hits over six innings and struck out seven in the Marauders’ 3-0 loss.

For the season Signore has already registered 69 strikeouts in 63 innings of work. In 2009 the season high for strikeouts for a Marauder pitcher was 59. She carried a 1.99 ERA into conference play.
