Cory Briggs pitches for the University of the Ozarks.

Greencastle-Antrim High School graduate Cory Briggs was named the American Southwest Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week, it was announced Monday afternoon by the ASC office.

Briggs, a 6-foot senior right-hander at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, tossed a complete-game with six strikeouts to earn the win in Saturday’s 4-2 victory over LeTourneau University.

The Greencastle native scattered six hits and walked just two batters over the seven frames. He fanned two batters in the seventh and also helped his own cause by driving in a run in the sixth inning. He improved his record to 2-1 with the win.

Briggs has had five appearances on the mound this season, and owns a 4.10 ERA with 29 strikeouts in 26.1 innings of work. Briggs, who is among the top two-way players in the region, has done damage with his bat as well, hitting .293 with five homers and 17 RBI. A three-time All-Conference player, Briggs received All-America honors in 2008 at shortstop.

Ozarks will travel to Pineville, La., to face Louisiana College in a three-game set April 1-2.
