Over Thanksgiving weekend, three teams associated with The Table Tennis Centre, Mercersburg, went to the Joola North American Teams Championship 2009, with two striking gold.

The annual tournament is held at the Baltimore Convention Center where more than 200 teams enter annually and more than 1,000 players join the event, on 144 tables in a hall of 150,000 square feet.

The JADE team from Mercersburg, Jef Savage, captain (Mercersburg), Diane Chance (New York), Austin Stouffer (Greencastle) and Thomas Huff (Maryland) won Division 11.

After a disappointing preliminary round JADE found itself seeded on the top of eight teams in Division 11A. JADE went 4-0 in the next round, including wins over a Puerto Rican team and a hard-fought decision over one from Mexico. The clean sweep continued with a 6-0 mark in the next round and a victory in the finals for the championship.

Infinite Loop, the junior team from the center and consisting of Michelle and David Varkey, captain, Chambersburg, and Crystal, Lilly and Klaus from Maryland Table Tennis Center, Gaithersburg, Md. won Division 14 by going an undefeated 6-0.

Also competing for the center were the RAMS, the second senior team, consisting of Mike Stouffer (Greencastle), Ben Arnold (McConnellsburg) and Johnny Robinson and Greg Moe (both from West Virginia). Stouffer and Arnold had several wins over higher rated players.
