Greencastle-Antrim didn’t find many cracks in the armor of Dover last week in dropping its District 3-AA quarterfinal match 3-0. The Eagles posted games of 25-10, 25-22 and 25-22 to end the Blue Devils’ fine season.

Each team went into the match with just one loss, but Dover took the upper hand with a solid opening game win. The Eagles led 17-4 and soared.  G-A changed its fortunes in the second set, taking a 5-1 lead early on. The Devils worked their way back to even the game and it was nip and tuck to the end. A couple of aces from Kelsey Gearhart set up a close ending, but Dover rose up to score four of the final five points and win.

Again the Blue Devils began the next game with resolve, rolling to a 12-6 advantage. Dover responded with a 9-2 run to take the lead. Four times G-A knotted the score, but couldn’t regain the lead.

Gearhart delivered nine kills, 12 digs and two aces in the match for G-A. Erin Garnes put up 22 assists and added five kills and two aces. Rachel Kline had seven kills. Samantha Rudy added 10 digs and three kills.

Earlier in the week G-A got through the opening round pool play by dispatching York Suburban (3-0) and Fleetwood (2-1) before running into Susquehannock, which took a 2-1 match. That result still put G-A second in the pool for the quarterfinal round.

Against Suburban the Devils shook off close wins of 25-23 and 26-24 by sailing 25-14 in the third. Gearhart added up 13 kills in the match and Garns had 33 assists. Rudy delivered seven kills and three aces. Nakita Geahart contributed seven kills and three blocks. Katy Bobbitt tallied 14 digs.

After splitting the first two games, 25-19 and 22-15, against Fleetwood, the Devils regrouped for a 25-23 win in the third game that essentially clinched advancement to the quarterfinals. Kelsey Gearhart tallied 11 kills, 15 digs, three aces and two blocks. Garns picked up 25 assists. Nakita Gearhart contributed seven kills. Rudy added six kills. Bobbitt was involved for three aces and 12 digs.

In the Susquehannock match, the Warriors claimed the first two games in scores of 25-15 and 25-18. G-A came back to take the third, 25-17. Kelsey Gearhart was in for eight kills, three blocks and 13 digs. Garns added 21 assists. Nakita Gearhart contributed six kills and three blocks. Bobbitt added 10 digs.

G-A ended its season with a 20-2 record.
