Falcons take on Shippensburg

The Greencastle Falcons hosted Shippensburg Aug. 29  and had a bye week on the weekend of Sept. 5 and 6 in Keystone Youth Football League action.

The varsity Falcons outran the Greyhounds for a hard fought 16-13 win and remain undefeated at 2-0.  The swift rushing offense was led by Justin Hovey with 50 yards, two touchdowns, 13 yards receiving and two two-point conversions.  Ashtin Byers had 21 yards, Matt Kline 17 yards, Kurt Hansen 12 yards and Desmond Wolfe  six yards.  Elijah Webster finished with five return yards.  The stubborn defense was led by Ashtin Byers with 6.5 tackles, followed by G. Byers and Justin Hovey with 5.5 tackles apiece.  Ryan Ricci had 3.5 tackles, Elijah Webster 2.5 tackles and Thomas Bowers with two tackles.  Dalton Webster capped the defense with fumble recovery.

The mid-varsity Falcons went down 20-0 to the Hounds to go to 1-1. The offensive rushing was led by Tyler Graham with 121 yards; Derrick Measell 14 yards rushing, a reception for five yards and two punt returns for 15 yards; Kyrin Zimmerman with 10 yards and kick return for eight yards; and Matt Lutz with a reception for 10 yards.  Cade Bender was 2-for-2 for 15 yards. The defense was frustrated this day and had no answers for the Greyhound offense.  Keenan Barnhart led the defense with five tackles, followed by Graham with four tackles.  Zack Koons and Colin Blubaugh had three tackles apiece.

The junior varsity Falcons also dropped a 20-0 contest to go to 0-1-1 for the season.

The Falcon Smurfs scored twice and the defense held the Greyhounds to one touchdown. Connor Cline led the offense in the first half scoring two touchdowns. The second half offense was led by several Daniel Sheppard 20-yard runs. The Falcons defense held the Greyhounds to limited yardage the entire game. Seth Ryder forced two Greyhound fumbles, both of which he recovered. Corey Mowen had three unassisted sacks and he teamed up with Taylor Conrad and Jacob Steier for several more.
