The Greencastle-Antrim Blue Devil golf program got its usual head start of the 2009 fall athletic season last week with two Mid-Penn Conference Capital Division matches. And G-A got a head start of much of its competition at the matches.

In hosting the division opener at Greencastle Greens, the Devils (10-2) claimed second behind Trinity. G-A repeated the feat at Whitetail Golf Resort in James Buchanan’s home meet.

The Blue Devils were just two shots shy of Trinity at home with a 427 to the Shamrock’s 425. Dylan Emmett led the way for the home team with an 80, good for a tie for second in the match. Also in the top 10 for G-A were: Ben Powers, fifth, 85; Nathan Pool, 86, tie sixth; Corey Main 87, tie ninth. Completing the Devil scorers were: Jared Grove, 89; Andrew Zeger, 92; Daniel Bitner, 102.

In Mercersburg Trinity lengthened its lead to 21 strokes with a 412 to G-A’s 433. Pool took the top spot for the Devils by carding a 79 for third in the event. Emmett (84) and Powers (87) were also in the top 10 with a seventh and tie for 10th respectively. Also competing were: Main, 90; Bitner, 93; Dylan Schaeffer, 96; Grove, 98.
