Greencastle plays for Section 7 title

Greencastle’s entry into the 10-11 year old baseball division of the Little League Inc. tournament was set to play for the Section 7 title Tuesday evening.

The PA District 14 champions advanced to the title game over the weekend with a 10-7 defeat of Solanco and a 5-3 win over East Side. Greencastle awaited the winner of a game between those two teams, Solanco and East Side, for its opponent in the title game, scheduled at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Quarryville. If the local team loses it would still get another chance Wednesday in the double elimination tourney.

On Saturday Greencastle opened Section 7 play after two days of rainouts with a 10-7 win over Solanco at Quarryville. Solanco jumped to an early lead in the top of the first with three runs. Greencastle answered with one in the first before Solanco scored twice in the top of the second. Greencastle answered with six in the bottom of the second and went on to win 10-7.

For Greencastle, Matthew Kline and Sean Walck collected two hits. Also collecting hits for Greencastle were Eugene Byers, Myles Gayman and Derek Measell. On the mound Gayman went 5 1/3 for the win while Kurtis Kline recorded the last two outs for the save.

On Sunday the local squad again won with a 5-3 verdict over East Side of West Chester. Offensively for Greencastle Matthew Kline, Bailey Parker and Griffin Remenick collected two hits . Also adding hits were Byers, Gayman, Sean Walck and Quin Ambeault. On the mound Matthew Kline went five innings for the win while Derek Measell recorded the last three outs for the save.
