Jaguars choose Babich as defensive coordinator

Pro Football Weekly

Jaguars new head coach Gus Bradley was a busy man Saturday. He filled his top two job openings, hiring former Bears LB coach Bob Babich as defensive coordinator and former University of Miami offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch to the same post with the Jaguars, the team announced Saturday.

Bradley worked previously with both men. Babich was actually Bradley's boss from 1997-2002 at North Dakota state, when he was the team's head coach and Bradley was a defensive assistant. Fisch was the Seahawks QB coach in 2010 when Bradley was coordinating the defense.

Babich spent the past nine seasons working under Lovie Smith in Chicago. Fisch ran the Hurricanes' offense the past two seasons.

Coming off a 2-14 season, Jaguars owner Shad Khan fired GM Gene Smith, hiring David Caldwell as his replacement. Caldwell relieved former head coach Mike Mularkey after just one season, tabbing Gus Bradley on Wednesday.
