Citizen involvement is important to any community. We have advocated that here many times in the past. One aspect of that involvement is public interest and action in the governmental arena. After all, it’s those authorities who are the ones who make the decisions on how things work and how it’s paid for, i.e. taxes.

Greencastle-Antrim residents showed that they wanted a say last week when 50 came out to voice their opinions about the future of our public schools. And that’s exactly how it should be. Citizens should stay informed and take an interest, not just when a tax hike may be looming. We hope that residents stay involved now and in the future. The decisions that need to be made in the next few months won’t be easy or painless. But with the board and citizens working together we’ll know we’ve done our best.
