It’s a good start
The $3.4 million in federal funding announced this week toward the upgrade of Exit 3 of Interstate 81 is a good start in preparing for the future.
Longterm plans for improvements to the interchange have a $20 million price tag.
Officials say that area of Antrim Township has not only the most important development potential in Franklin County, but in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Economic development eyes see 1,000 acres in that area as prime land. Already Antrim Commons Business Park is searching for tenants and predicts that development could create 2,000 new jobs that would mean $14 million in tax revenues.
With that potential impact it’s good that we are preparing the travel configuration to handle it. The $3.4 million earmark is aimed at improving access on and off the interstate at the exit. The first step is to move the southbound I-81 off-ramp. It’s a good start.
