Friday and Saturday are Sidewalk Days

The weather forecast is hot and sunny for Greencastle's 52nd annual Sidewalk Days on Friday and Saturday, July 12 and 13. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

In addition, three area churches will hold fund-raising events in conjunction with Sidewalk Days.

 Sidewalk Days 

Local merchants will be offering merchandise at bargain prices during Sidewalk Days, while over 100 crafters, community groups, food stands and other vendors will line parts of Baltimore and South Carlisle streets, which will be closed to traffic.

Activities and entertainment are scheduled both days, starting with a welcoming ceremony led by Greencastle Mayor Ben Thomas at 10 a.m. on Friday. Antietam Humane Society will be presenting adoptable animals from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kids Zone located at the Greencastle Presbyterian Church, 57 W. Baltimore St. WAYZ will have a live remote from noon to 8 p.m. At 1 p.m., musician Mitch Morrill will be performing in the Square followed by Morning Sky Duo at 3 p.m. and Marshall Stone at 5 p.m.

On Saturday, entertainment begins at 9 a.m. in the Square with a puppet performance by Barb & Friends, followed by a demonstration by Thompson’s Karate Studio. Music by finalists from Franklin County Visitors Bureau’s A Capella Unplugged contest begins at 11 a.m., with Bob Keel performing at 1 p.m. and South Bound Buffalo at 3 p.m. There will be a dunk tank from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Church fundraisers 

  • An indoor yard and food sale will be held Friday and Saturday in the basement level of Evangelical Lutheran Church, 130 N. Washington St. The sale will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

There will be a variety of yard sale items and food will include whole homemade pies, chili dogs, steamers, hot dogs and drinks.

  • Grace United Church of Christ on East Baltimore Street will host a sidewalk sale fundraiser for its ministry from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday.
  • Walking tacos will be sold in front of the church to benefit Grace's First Saturday Food program.
  • A yard sale along the alley toward the parking lot will benefit Grace's Closet, a free clothing program.
  • A basket raffle, also along the alley, will benefit Laundry Love. It will feature items from Bath and Body Works and a gift card from Bed, Bath and Beyond.
  • A large indoor yard sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Otterbein United Brethren Church at the corner of South Allison and Leitersburg streets.
