Greencastle's new website up and running

Council meeting minutes as far back as the 1880s and as recent as a month or two ago are just a click away at the Borough of Greencastle's new website.

There was a soft launch the afternoon of Monday, May 6, Borough Manager Eden Ratliff reported at that evening's borough council meeting, before providing a brief demonstration of:

Some information is still being uploaded and the website will continue to be a "work in progress" as more information is added, but "there's a lot of pretty cool things here," Ratliff said.

One feature is the site's searchability. Ratliff typed in "Thomas" and scores of references to Mayor Ben Thomas Jr. popped up.

The site, which has mobile accessibility, also has information on everything from the shade tree commission to police permits and from borough ordinances to budgets and audits and from photos to community history. The mayor, the borough manager and the police chief are uploading their reports to the site, which was developed by Shenberger Technologies.

There is going to be a whole page dedicated to stormwater management and the borough's municipal separate storm sewer system permit.

Meeting wrap-up 

Also at the May 6 meeting:

• Mayor Ben Thomas Jr. acknowledged the death of former Harry R. Foley, former mayor and councilman, on April 18.
• Due to the July 4 holiday and Old Home Week, two summer council meetings have been rescheduled. The meetings will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, and Tuesday, Aug. 13.
• Council accepted the resignation of Greg Rock, who has served more than 20 years on the Greencastle, Franklin County Water Authority. During his tenure the current plant was constructed and numerous other upgrades and improvements were made. Barry Kerr of North Carlisle Street was appointed to fill out Rock's unexpired term, which runs through the end of 2023.

• Approved a request from Incognito Tattoo to hold its annual fundraiser for Antietam Humane Society from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at 15 Center Square.
• Ratliff announced that Emilee Little has been hired as the new billing and program coordinator.
• There have been several recent thefts from vehicles and Police Chief John Phillippy reminded people to remove valuables and lock the doors. "Call if you observe something suspicious," he said.
• The police department also is enforcing ordinances concerning junk, weeds and other violations. Reports may be made to the borough office or police department.
