Old Home Week event sponsorships available

"Honor the past, encourage the present and grow the future" is the mission statement of Andy Everetts, president of the 40th Triennial Old Home Week.

While staying true to a history of limiting the commercialization of the celebration, funding is needed as expenses continue to climb with the event's popularity, Everetts said as he announced sponsorship opportunities at Monday's meeting of the Old Home Week Association.

The triennial Old Home Week costs $90,000 to $100,000 and there is currently about $46,000 in the OHW money market.

"People ask 'How can you keep it going with a $6 badge?'" according to Everetts, who also said OHW receives generous donations from individuals and businesses.

An Old Home Week badge, which this year will spotlight the springhouse at Ebbert Spring, sells for $6 and provides admission to all the Aug. 3 to 10 events.

Sponsorship opportunities include:

Parade, $10,000

Music on the Square, $8,000

Kids' Fun Fair at King Playground, $3,500

Concerts in the Park, $3,000

Antique Car Show, $750

Motorcycle Show, $750

Dog Show, $750

Flower Show, $750

Sponsorships are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Sponsors will be listed in the 2019 OHW program and can post a banner or sign at their events.

Everetts noted businesses may want to get together and split up the sponsorship amounts.

Getting ready

A number of the reports on Monday's meeting were "we're getting there," "we'll start meeting soon" and "all set."

Others included:

  • Everetts said he is still being contacted by people who want to volunteer and committee heads should let him know if they need help.
  • A press release will go out around mid-March seeking participants in the community worship service.
  • Registration for the Fred Kaley 5K Run is now available online.
  • Bonnie Shockey said a list of ideas is being compiled for Reminiscing. "It is not about sharing history, it's about experiences," she said, explaining the panelists talk about their memories.

Association meetings are open to everyone and the next one is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, in the Rescue Hose Co. multi-purpose room, 842 S. Washington St.
