Boy Scout Troop 99 planted an oak tree in honor of the 100th birthday of John Kinney, who helped found the troop.

John Kinney, formerly of Greencastle, celebrated his 100th birthday Sunday during the Oct. 22 worship service at Greencastle Presbyterian Church.

Kinney, now a resident of Providence Place in Chambersburg, has been a member of the church for 60 years.

The children and youth of the church gathered around Kinney and his family and sang "Happy Birthday" during the children's time in the worship service.

After the service, an oak tree, planted in honor of his birthday, was dedicated by Boy Scout Troop 99 of Greencastle. Kinney helped found the troop and was instrumental in securing the old High Line Train Station as a headquarters for youth activities, including Scouts, in Greencastle.

After the dedication, friends and family gathered in the church social room to enjoy birthday cake and Penn State Creamery ice cream.
