Greencastle Amateur Players staging ‘Cinderella’

The Greencastle Amateur Players will continue a tradition started in 2003 as young performers present “Cinderella” this weekend.
The performances are planned at 7 p.m. Friday, June 23, and 1 and 7 p.m. Saturday, June 24, in the bandshell at Jerome R. King Playground and at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 25, in Evangelical Lutheran Church, 130 N. Washington St. The church also is the rain location for the other shows.
GAP was founded by Ann Davis and continued until almost the 10-year mark by the Burke-McIntosh family.
The troupe offers an introduction to theater for children age 5 through 12th grade. This year’s cast includes about 25 children ranging in age from 5 to 14.
Directors Kayleigh Smith, almost 21, and Olivia Esche, 18, are GAP alumni, each with one previous year of directing under her belt.
Smith joined GAP in its second year when she was 7.
“I loved it. It was a great way to get me out of my shell,” she said. “I was really shy, now it’s my passion.”
They said GAP draws performers from all over the region, including home-schoolers, so it is a good way to make friends and get to know other kids.
The show is free and proceeds of the concession stand will go to future performances. For more information, find Greencastle Amateur Players on Facebook.
Those attending the performances in the park should bring lawn chairs or blankets.
