Remodeled pub opens at Greencastle Golf Club
“It’s not the same as it was years ago,” said Mike Porter, general manager of Greencastle Golf Club. “This is the first of many phases.”
On Saturday, the Fireside Pub officially opened for business to serve golfers and non-golfers alike at the course off Williamson Road.
“Even if you’re not a golfer, we want to cater to your needs,” said Porter. “We have a great atmosphere up here and views that you can’t beat to sit and have lunch.”
The newly renovated facility has the potential to have close to 50 people seated at a time. The Fireside Pub has an updated menu that carries items for each member of the family. Also, Greencastle Golf Club can host a variety of larger groups in the downstairs facility.
“We have had corporate companies come in, have breakfast, talk for a hour or so and then go out and play 18 holes of golf and then come back in and enjoy a bite to eat,” said Porter. “ In the past we have had birthday parties, baby showers and even retirement parties.”
In October 2015, Greencastle Golf Club acquired a liquor license.
“Having this license has opened the door to a lot of options for us,” said Porter. “Golfers don’t have to worry about trying to bring beverages to the course now, we can supply their need here.”
With the opening of the Fireside Pub completed, Porter has his sights set on future plans.
“If people support this project, we can expand. We would like to put high-top tables and outdoor seating around the wrap-around porch and have live music in the evening times.”
With dining options always being a topic of discussion in Greencastle, Porter is hopeful that the Fireside Pub will become a popular destination.
“We are trying to market to everyone and become on of the choices people think about when choosing a restaurant to eat at," he said.
