Superintendent search will start again

The Greencastle-Antrim School District superintendent search is entering its third round.

A second candidate has withdrawn from consideration to replace Dr. C. Gregory Hoover, who retired June 30, 2016.

It appeared a replacement had been selected in early July, but the candidate bowed out due to relocation issues.

Negotiations with a second candidate started before Thanksgiving, but the person withdrew earlier this year after back and forth about a contract.

"There were a couple of items we couldn't get past," according to Jim Winslow, school board president.

The board is now trying to determine the best way to proceed. The first two rounds were with the assistance of the Pennsylvania School Boards Association.

"They were great, but we may try to do the process a little more on our own. We're working through it right now," according to Winslow, who said it is important to hire someone who is a good fit with the town, the administration, the students and the faculty.

He noted the board is facing a June 30 deadline with interim superintendent Jolinda "JC" Wilson, who also is the district's chief financial officer. An interim superintendent can only serve a one-year appointment.
