Bake-off winners announced

The Coyle Free Library had a Capital Campaign Bake-off mixer / fundraiser on Dec. 21 at 1 p.m. at the temporary library located at 340 N. Second St. in Chambersburg.

Twenty baked goods were entered in the contest and patrons voted on their favorites with a quarter per vote. Bakers also made an additional batch of their holiday treats for a live auction conducted by Carl Ocker of Kenny’s Auction. Votes were tabulated by three honorable judges: Tim Henry – president of F&M Trust, Kathy Powley – VP of commercial services with F&M Trust, and Joan Norcross – Chambersburg Afternoon Club.

First place winner was Joan Peiffer with Lemon Bars; second place winner was Jill Yaich also with Lemon Bars; and the third place winner was Sharon Stottlemyer with Peach Pie. A total of $425.25 was raised through quarter votes and auction proceeds.

Joan’s winning lemon bars recipe is: Crust - 1 cup soft butter, 1/2 cup powdered sugar, 2 cups flour, dash of salt, mix with pastry blender, press in a 9x13 pan, bake at 350 for 15 minutes. Filling - 4 beaten eggs, 2 cups sugar, 1/4 cup flour, 6 Tbls lemon juice. Beat and pour in slightly cooled crust. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes, cool and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

To date, Franklin County Library System has raised over $1 million toward the $2.5 million dollar community goal to renovate the historic Coyle Free Library on Main Street.  The renovation will enable Franklin County Library System to provide state of the art library services to local patrons that are in keeping with the library’s mission, vision and values.
