Greencastle is pink for one week

Downtown Greencastle is pretty in pink this week, as Breast Cancer Awareness - Cumberland Valley heightens awareness of the disease.

For one week only, pink ribbons adorn parking meters, utility poles and trees in Center Square. They were placed by Breast Cancer Awareness - Cumberland Valley to celebrate its Park in the Pink Awareness Campaign.

The non-profit organization proactively received permission from the borough in August to put up the ribbons in October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Tags on the ribbons remind people to pay the meter if they park.

BCA-CV offers free early detection programs, support through all phases of the disease, and aid to patients and their families after surgery.

The agency serves people in Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia.
