Members of the Greencastle-Antrim High School National Honor Society collected coats, non-perishable grocery items, and money to support the New Hope Shelter from mid-November to mid-December.

The society's Service Committee, co-chaired by Ben Hockman and Abby Lackey, organized the activities and helped deliver the donations to the shelter on Dec. 12. Member Emily Nguyen decorated the box that was placed in the high school lobby and which overflowed with coats and non-perishable goods during the two collection days.

A monetary donation of $250 from Zarger's Plumbing and Heating anchored the contributions.

Students were encouraged to contact businesses, friends and family to gather items to support the shelter. Anyone else interested in giving a monetary donation to the shelter through this project should contact NHS advisor DuAnne Thrush at the high school at 597-3226, ex. 10201 by Jan. 31 or any of the society's officers or the Service Committee co-chairs.

Current NHS officers are Colby Zarger, president; Molly Nowell, vice president; Nikki Garns, secretary; and Jane Eberhardt, treasurer.
