The 2010 Greencastle-Antrim alumni football game was played on grass. On Saturday the past gridders will get a shot at playing on the new turf of Kaley Field. The “Fall Athletics, Alumni Day”, sponsored by G-A MAAX, will also feature alumni contests in cross country, soccer, field hockey, volleyball and a halftime show by the alumni band. Players and spectators are encouraged to attend.

Current Greencastle-Antrim students have completed their use of the new surface at the school district’s stadium for the season. Now it’s time for those who have gone before to have their chance.

A “Fall Athletics, Alumni Day” has been planned by G-A MAAX (Maximizing Arts and Athletic X-cellence), a $2.5 million fundraising campaign to repay the district for the money borrowed to upgrade Kaley Field, the north field, the six-lane track and provide new lighting at the stadium. Past school district athletes and band members are invited to take part in the event Saturday, Nov. 26.

The day will being with a 10 a.m. cross county race on the district course and end with a 6 p.m. volleyball match in the high school gymnasium. In between the turf of Kaley Field will get a workout by the alumni of football, soccer, field hockey and past band members.

For the past several years G-A alumni of the football program have gathered on the Saturday after Thanksgiving and played a spirited game of flag football. That will continue this year with a noon game on the artificial turf. The Greencastle-Antrim Alumni Band has performed at local events for many years and will join the alumni event at the school by performing at halftime of the football game. Soccer will take the field at 2 p.m., followed by field hockey at 4 p.m.

Past athletes or band members are encouraged to come out at the time of their sport’s game and join in.

Organizers are also hoping that many spectators attend to help re-live those glory days with the athletes.
