Fiesta-val festival is party of awards for Greencastle-Antrim band, choir

The Fiesta-val festival proved to be just that for the music program of the Greencastle-Antrim High School last week.

The G-AHS concert choir, chamber choir, G-Castle Jazz, concert band and jazz-rock ensemble had a party performing at top form at the Fiesta Festival April 7 and 8. In seven categories of competition, G-A claimed six of the top spots.

Greencastle-Antrim was first in the following: Jazz Choir (Division II), Madrigal Choir (Chamber Choir) (Division II), Concert Band (Division IV), Jazz Band (Division III), Percussion Ensemble (Open Division) and Indoor Guard (Open Division). G-A was second in Mixed Chorus (Concert Choir (Division III). Other schools placing in the divisions were Bishop McNamara, Cardinal Gibbons and Wylde Lake.

Two G-A groups were honored with overall awards for the festival. The Jazz Choir was presented the Overall Jazz Choir Award and the Jazz Band won a special award for Best Brass Section overall in the Jazz Band category.

Two individuals from Greencastle-Antrim were also presented awards during the festival: Amber Crider, Special Award for student director for Mixed Chorus and Seth Izer, Special Soloist Award Jazz Choir.

G-A’s percusssion ensemble and indoor guard groups will compete again Saturday, April 16 at the TIA Chapter 6 Championships set at 3 p.m. in Cumberland Valley High School.
