A Mont Alto Lion Ambassador reads a book to area children with the help of the Nittany Lion as part of the campus' Nittany Lion Reads program.

Nittany Lion Reads is coming to the Lilian S. Besore Memorial Library in Greencastle.

Penn State Mont Alto is holding a Nittany Lion Reads program to promote reading among area children through the local library system, including 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9 at Besore Library.

Children will be treated to a story reading, a meet-and-greet session and picture-taking time with the Penn State Nittany Lion. Each participant will also have the opportunity to create a picture frame for their photo and to participate in games offerings.

A highlight of the program for the children may be the story of Ben and Jerry's ice cream at Penn State, along with free ice cream.

The program is free of charge.

Each program will be approximately one hour in length.

"Reading as a child can be the first step to expanding vocabulary and comprehension," said Sarah Sultzbaugh, student director of the Nittany Lion Reads program.

"It also strengthens skills necessary to one day succeed in college."
