Rotarians within Area 8, representing the Greencastle, Chambersburg, Mercersburg and Waynesboro clubs, will serve as guest readers in each of the 70 kindergarten classrooms in the four school districts on March 2. Rotarians will read aloud the Dr. Seuss book Fox in Socks. The books will then be given to the classroom libraries.

This community project will impact more than 1,400 kindergarteners, emphasizing the importance of literacy to our area's youngest readers. March 2 is significant as it is Dr. Seuss' birthday and is celebrated nationally as Read Across America Day.  Rotarians from each of the clubs are looking forward to serving as special guest readers in hopes of a very memorable reading and storytelling experience for our area's kindergarten students. It is the hope of the clubs to continue further collaboration in the future.

Mercersburg Rotary President, Danny Bristol, announced Mercersburg Rotary members will read to the 10 kindergarten classes in the Tuscarora School District on March 2.  “We were very happy to participate in this program in 2010 and our members are looking forward to doing so once again in 2011,” Bristol added.
