Another barn burns in Franklin County, animals killed

Several buildings on a farm located in St. Thomas Township, just over its border with Antrim Township, were damaged by a fire reported around noon Tuesday. It is the third blaze reported in a structure, the second barn, in the past two days in that area of Franklin County.

Fire crews were called to 4901 Quarry Road, Greencastle, just before 11 a.m. Quarry Road is located off Warm Spring Road. Three structures at the farm owned by Barron and Melissa Keefer were involved with fire, according to authorities. One barn was destroyed by fire. Two other building were damaged by the blaze.

Firefighters from the county and from Maryland were called to help battle the fire and were on the scene for several hours. Some farm animals reportedly died in the fire.

Earlier in the day a fire was reported at Ryder's Welding and Backhoe at 3959 Warmspring Road. On Monday 19 calves were killed in a fire at Fisher Farms, 1153 Geibs Road in Peters Township. The Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal is investigating the cause of all three fires.

Greencastle Rescue Hose Co. units were among those who responded to battle the fire Tuesday afternoon. Others included MMPW, Washington County, Maugansville, Marion, Williamsport, Leitersburg, McConnellsburg, Greencastle and Mont Alto.
