Man with Greencastle address sought in Frederick bank robbery

Authorities are looking for a man who has been linked to a Greencastle address and who in wanted in connection with an armed bank robbery Wednesday in Frederick.

The Frederick Police Department issued a news release in which they identified James Raymond Vanwinkle, 36, whose last known address was Greencastle, as a suspect in a 3:23 p.m. armed robbery at the Sun Trust Bank at 1700 Rosemont Ave.

Police have issued an arrest warrent for Vanwinkle and ask that anyone with information on his whereabouts to call them at 301-600-1259.

According to the news release on the robbery, when police responded to the report of a robbery at the Sun Trust Bank they encountered a vehicle that matched the description of the one reportedly used in the robbery. After officers attempted to stop the vehicle in the area of U.S. 15 and West Seventh Street, a brief chase ensued and the car was later found in the 100 block of South Market Street without the driver. In addition to city police, the Maryland State Police and Frederick County Sheriff’s Office were involved in the chase.

Police said an investigation showed that Vanwinkle was the owner of the vehicle and the driver.

Police allege that Vanwinkle showed a note during the robbery and left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.

According to police, no injuries were reported.
